With just over a week & a half to go until election day, I wanted to summarize the last few blog posts to continue to make my claim about why I'm the right candidate for the Frederick County School Board seat in the Shawnee District. There are three of us running for this seat with similar focus but not the same path nor experience to build a stronger FCPS.
As I’ve spent time talking with neighbors, parents, and teachers across the Shawnee District, one thing is crystal clear: our schools are the heart of our community. We are all proud of this community, one built on values and a deep commitment to our children’s success.
That shared commitment is why I’m running for the School Board. I want to be clear: I’m not running against anyone; I’m running for our kids, our dedicated teachers, and our entire community.
Like many communities, we face a world that feels increasingly divided. It’s easy for public discussions to get reduced to “sides” or “camps”. But I believe the issues we face like quality of education, teacher retention, school safety, and budget stewardship deserve thoughtful solutions, not continued divisiveness.
My commitment to you is to build bridges, not barriers. I believe good governance begins with good communication, and that starts with listening. As I talk with people throughout the county, I hear a common theme: people want their voices to matter. They want to know that when they share a concern or an idea, someone is truly listening, not just waiting for their turn to respond. I promise to bring that kind of leadership, one built on patience, humility, and a genuine desire to understand the experiences of others.
But listening alone is not enough. To serve our community well, we must pair listening with independent thinking. This means I will ask questions, weigh the input we receive against the needs of the broader school system, and make decisions guided not by political trends, but by what is right for our students and community.
This philosophy extends to transparency. Parents deserve to know what decisions are being made and why. Teachers deserve consistent support, and taxpayers deserve transparency regarding how resources are being used. When communication is open, consistent, and collaborative, our schools will thrive.
My experience and leadership have taught me how to bring people together and turn good ideas into real results. My focus will always be on:
Education is not a partisan issue. We all want schools that are safe, welcoming, and committed to preparing our children for the future. We differ on the “how,” but we share the same “why”.
I believe strong leadership and real experience are what make the difference between simply talking about solutions and collaborating to get them done. By listening first and working together respectfully, we can build bridges strong enough to carry every child forward. I’d be honored to earn your vote.
