Today marks the start of early voting in Frederick County. Between now and Election Day, our community has the opportunity to make its voice heard on the direction of our schools. I encourage everyone to participate your vote truly shapes the future for our students.
As I’ve met with parents, teachers, students, and neighbors, I’ve been reminded of the many challenges our schools are facing:
We are behind in building classroom space. Our county continues to grow, but our schools haven’t kept pace. Overcrowded classrooms make it harder for teachers to teach and students to learn.
We need to focus on academic achievement. Test scores and outcomes matter but so does preparing our children with critical thinking skills, creativity, and resilience for life beyond the classroom.
We must support teachers. Teacher pay and retention remain pressing issues. If we can’t keep great teachers in our classrooms, every other effort falls short.
We must keep our schools safe. Safety isn’t just about secure buildings—it’s about ensuring students and staff feel supported and protected every single day. Families deserve the peace of mind that schools are places where children can learn without fear.
I don’t claim to have all the answers to these big challenges. What I do promise is: I will listen carefully to those most affected, think deeply about solutions that are sustainable, and communicate honestly about what is possible and what it will take to get there.
Serving on the school board isn’t about knowing everything on day one it’s about having the humility to learn, the courage to make tough decisions, and the commitment to keep students at the center of every choice.
As early voting begins, I ask you to reflect on what matters most in our schools: safe classrooms, strong academics, and teachers who feel valued and supported. If you believe we need leaders who are willing to learn, listen, and work hard to address these challenges, I’d be honored to earn your vote.
Together, we'll face these challenges head-on and build the school system our community deserves.
