Hello friends and neighbors,
As a parent, a neighbor, and a candidate for the Frederick County School Board- Shawnee District, I want to talk about something I know matters deeply to all of us—parental rights in our schools.
Raising kids is the most important job any of we as parents will ever have. From teaching them right and wrong to cheering them on at ballgames and concerts, parents are there every step of the way. And when we send our children to school, we trust that they’ll be safe, respected, and supported—not just academically, but emotionally and socially, too.
That’s why I believe parents should always have a seat at the table when it comes to decisions that affect their children’s education.
Schools Work Best When Families Are Involved
In Frederick County, we’re lucky to have a caring, hard-working school community. Like many places, there’s room to grow when it comes to keeping parents informed and involved. I’ve heard from families across the district who feel like their voices aren’t always being heard—and that needs to change. If I’m elected to the school board, I will be a strong advocate for transparency, communication, and respect for family values. That means:
✅ Curriculum Transparency: Parents have the right to know what’s being taught in the classroom. I’ll support clear, accessible information about lesson plans, and materials—so there are no surprises.
✅ Open and Honest Communication: Whether it’s a classroom concern or a district-wide decision, families should have easy ways to reach school staff and board members. I’ll push for tools and policies that make that possible.
✅ Respect for Family Values: We have a wide range of beliefs in Frederick County, and that should be honored in our schools, not ignored. Parents should feel confident that their values will be respected.
✅ Informed Consent: When it comes to sensitive topics like health education or surveys, parents should be fully informed and have the final say.
✅ Data Privacy: Our kids' personal information should be protected—plain and simple. I’ll work to ensure strong safeguards are in place.
It’s About Teamwork
This isn’t about politics, it’s about partnership. Parents and teachers are a team, and when we work together, our kids benefit the most. I believe our schools should reflect the values of the families they serve—and that starts with listening.
If elected, I promise to keep the door open, return your phone calls & email, and make sure you are heard. My goal is to bring a respectful, common-sense approach to the board that puts families first and keeps our focus where it belongs: on the success of every student in Frederick County.
Let’s work together to make our school system even stronger—for our kids, our teachers, and our entire community.
Sincerely,
Chris Grassmuck
